What is Arts Express?
The Arts Commission of the City of San Jose sponsors a program that provides free arts performances to Santa Clara Valley students in grades 4-12. Each year, over 30 performing arts organizations that include music, dance, theater, and film offer free arts experiences for students. The Arts Commission prepares an annual brochure that is mailed to schools, and manages the reservation process.
Lyric Theatre has been participating in this program for many years, and our shows are always a hit with the young audiences. The children are bussed to the theater on a weekday morning, and are treated to a full-length performance, followed by the chance to meet our cast in the courtyard following the show. This season, we will be presenting Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe as an Arts Express performance on March 28th.
