Lyric Theatre announces auditions for our Discovery Series production “The Prince of Pilsen” and Mainstage Production “Utopia, Limited” April 12-14, 2014.
“The Prince of Pilsen” revolves around a case of mistaken identity: widowed brewer Hans Wagner and his daughter Nellie travel from Cincinnati to Nice to visit his son Tom, serving in the American Navy, where Hans is mistaken for the true Prince of Pilsen, Carl Otto. Lyric’s Discovery Series is a semi-staged, concert version of the show, in English with piano accompaniment. Rehearsals are June 30-July 24, and performances are July 26 and 27.
“Utopia, Limited” is the second-to-last of Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operas. King Paramount of Utopia has sent his eldest daughter, Princess Zara, to school in England, in hopes that her training there will aid with his plan to civilize his people. When Zara returns, Paramount begins to transform his country into a limited liability corporation -- an innovation that even England herself has not yet accepted. Rehearsals are July 28 through October 2, and performances are October 4-12.
