A Message to Our
Lyric Theatre Community
The Lyric Theatre Board of Directors is committed to:
• Upholding principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in casting and all other operations.
• Ensuring the safety of casts and crews from harassment and discrimination.
• Maintaining high production values in our shows.
• Promoting our signature light opera repertoire.
• Giving students onstage and backstage experience in musical theater arts.
To support these values, we have implemented:
• A revised Code of Conduct, which our casts, crews, musicians, staff, and board members are required to sign and observe.
• A contract with Red Flag Reporting hotline services, available to all Lyric show participants and staff. All harassment or discrimination cases are referred to independent HR professional Martin Bell, SHRM-SCP.
• Institution of an HR function within our organization (Larry Tom, acting manager), responsible for personnel issues, staff compensation, health and safety regulations, and HR training.
• Training or equivalent experience in effective handling of harassment and discrimination issues required for board members, staff, and directors (in process), and recommended to show participants.
• In-person DEI training for board members, directors, and staff (scheduled).

Lyric Theatre continues to welcome input and suggestions as we work together with the community to create a rewarding, exciting, and safe environment for our performers, staff, crew, and audiences. You are invited to direct ideas or comments to: Sharon Martin at president@lyrictheatre.org
