Welcome to Lyric Theatre!
Lyric Theatre of San José is a non-profit community theater group which has been dedicated to preserving and presenting our vocal musical heritage for over 40 years. Our annual season consists of shows by Gilbert & Sullivan, Broadway composers, and American & European operetta composers. Our productions receive many fine reviews for the quality and skills of the performers, orchestra, conductors, and stage directors. Our sets and costumes are designed by professionals with major stage experience. In summary, we provide excellent performances, all for a very reasonable ticket price.
Our main stage shows are performed at the historic Montgomery Theater in downtown San José with great seats and acoustics everywhere. Plenty of parking and restaurants are nearby, and a light rail stop is around the corner.
Lyric Theatre is a member of Theatre Bay Area and the Silicon Valley Arts Coalition.
In March of 2011, Lyric Theatre raised over $4750 to donate to the Red Cross in the aftermath of the Japan earthquake and tsunami.
This year at our recent production of Princess Ida, we partnered with the Malala Fund to support Ida’s and Malala's vision of girls and women fulfilling their potential through education. Read a Mercury News interview with Grace Popple, a member of the Princess Ida ensemble, about her efforts to bring about this partnership.
Thanks to the generosity of our patrons, we processed almost $1300 in direct contributions during the production as well as an unknown amount contributed directly to the Malala Fund.
Princess Ida may have finished, but Malala Yousafzai’s work goes on.
