Welcome to Lyric Theatre!

Due to the ongoing measures to combat the COVID-19 virus, Lyric Theatre is postponing our production of HMS Pinafore until such live presentations are once again safe for cast, orchestra, crew and audience.  Thank you for your patience and your support.

In the meantime, we invite you to click one of the titles below to enjoy a full-length video some of our productions:  The Sorcerer (2020),   The Pirates of Penzance (2015), Princess Ida (2017), Patience (2018).

Please check this page for updates from time to time.

Lyric Theatre is a non-profit community theater group which has been dedicated to preserving and presenting our vocal musical heritage for over 40 years.  Our annual season consists of shows by Gilbert & Sullivan, Broadway composers, and American & European operetta composers.  Our productions receive many fine reviews for the quality and skills of the performers, orchestra, conductors, and stage directors.  Our sets and costumes are designed by professionals with major stage experience.  In summary, we provide excellent performances, all for a very reasonable ticket price.

We provide projected supertitles of all song lyrics so that you don’t miss any.

Pre-performance talks:
You are all invited to our free pre-performance talks, one hour before curtain of each performance.  Our directors explain the history of the show, their interpretation of it, and perhaps some of the issues they had to address to bring the show to the stage.  If time allows, they take questions from the audience.

Lyric Theatre is a member of Theatre Bay Area and the Silicon Valley Arts Coalition.

Ticket price increase
Assembly Bill 5 (AB5) became effective January 1st of this year, directing that most workers are now employees. This is resulting in substantially higher costs for many companies, including Lyric Theatre. We must reluctantly raise our ticket prices to cover these additional costs.

Our ticket prices (effective January 27):
Adults: 40
15 and under: $15
Seniors: $37
Students 15-25: $25

Pinafore poster

Ralph Rackstraw, a common sailor, and Josephine, his widowed captain’s daughter, love each other.  Josephine has concealed her love because revealing it would ruin her father’s career due to the class differences between them.  What will they do?

HMS Pinafore got off to a slow start in 1878, but soon became one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s three most popular operettas and remains so to this day.  It includes “I'm called Little Buttercup”, “When I was a lad”, and “For he is an Englishman".
