Welcome to Lyric Theatre!

Lyric Theatre is a non-profit community theater group which has been dedicated to preserving and presenting our vocal musical heritage for over 40 years.  Our annual season consists of shows by Gilbert & Sullivan, Broadway composers, and American & European operetta composers.  Our productions receive many fine reviews for the quality and skills of the performers, orchestra, conductors, and stage directors.  Our sets and costumes are designed by professionals with major stage experience.  In summary, we provide excellent performances, all for a very reasonable ticket price.

SJCC Theater
The Sorcerer, in February 2020, will be our final production at the Theater at San José City CollegeNOTE:  Due to SJCC scheduling conflicts, performance dates are now February 22 through March 1.

Montgomery Theater
We will return to our former home, the Montgomery Theater, starting with our May-June 2020 production of HMS Pinafore.

Supertitles:
We provide projected supertitles of all song lyrics so that you don’t miss any.

Pre-performance talks:
You are all invited to our free pre-performance talks, one hour before curtain of each performance.  Our directors explain the history of the show, their interpretation of it, and perhaps some of the issues they had to address to bring the show to the stage.  If time allows, they take questions from the audience.

Lyric Theatre is a member of Theatre Bay Area and the Silicon Valley Arts Coalition.

Our next event

Sorcerer poster

Alexis, believing love and married life is the solution for the world’s ills, hires a Sorcerer to brew a love potion for his village of Ploverleigh.  But the pairings that result are not quite what he or anyone else expected.

The Sorcerer is Gilbert and Sullivan’s third collaboration, and their first surviving full length work.  You’ll leave the theater humming its many bright tunes.

New website
Lyric Theatre is constructing a new website (above), thanks to the efforts of Asha Kelly (who played Tessa in our production of The Gondoliers).  Click on the image to preview it.  Since it is still under construction, we would love to hear any comments or suggestions you might have.  Please send them to web@lyrictheatre.org .
