The Emerald Isle
or The Caves of Carrig-Cleena

Music sparkles and hilarity ensues when the British and the Irish collide in this delightful work by Sir Arthur Sullivan, Edward German, and Basil Hood.

Lyric Theatre is proud to announce our March “Discovery” show, The Emerald Isle, or, The Caves of Carrig-Cleena. This two-act comic opera has music by Sir Arthur Sullivan (his last opera) and Edward German and a libretto by Basil Hood. It is the story of an Irish patriot who resists the "re-education" program of the English and a quirky English "Professor of Elocution” who switches sides to help the Irish defend their culture. Romantic complications ensue between the Irish patriots and the superstitious English at the “haunted" caves of Carrig-Cleena, a legendary fairy mound in County Cork.
